Saudi Arabia Women Drive Cars to Protest Ban

The news about Saudi Arabia women drive cars to protest ban, indeed sounds very strange to most of us, Malaysian, since most women in Malaysia can drive......without fear. However, in principal, in my opinion, Saudi Arabia is doing the right thing. Don't you agree with me? Certainly. Don't take into heart. I'm just joking Hehe.

Women in Saudi Arabia have started driving cars in defiance of a ban on female drivers, in a campaign publicized on Facebook and Twitter.

Women in Saudi Arabia have started openly driving cars in defiance of a ban on female drivers in the kingdom.

The campaign has been publicized on social networking sites, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, where women have been posting images of themselves driving.

The Women2Drive Facebook page, which includes messages of support from around the world, said the campaign would continue until a royal decree reversed the ban.

"All that we need is to run our errands without depending on drivers," said one woman in a film posted Friday, the BBC reports.

While there are no traffic laws that make it illegal for women to drive in Saudi Arabia, the ban is a religious fatwa imposed by conservative Muslim clerics.

“The driving ban is increasingly upsetting Saudi women, who now make up more than half of this country’s university students. Graduating in record numbers, they are looking for jobs and they want to drive themselves to work, to the shopping mall, to the grocery store and to their children’s schools,” wrote GlobalPost’s Caryle Murphy in a story suggested and voted on by GlobalPost readers.

“The new social media tools and recent peaceful street action in other Arab countries like Egypt have given the campaign quite a bit of steam,” Murphy wrote.

Supporters of the ban say it protects women, and prevents them from leaving home unescorted or travelling with an unrelated male.

Last month, a woman was arrested and spent more than a week in jail after driving a car and posting a video of herself online.

Manal Al Sherif, 32, was accused of "besmirching the kingdom's reputation abroad and stirring up public opinion." She was released after being forced to sign a form promising never to drive again.

World's Best Bus Driver

Can you guess who is world's best bus driver? First of all, is there any such competition going on anywhere in the world? I don't think so, at least as far as I know. I took the notion from its self-claimed title at the video. The video claims that the guy is the best driver in the world. Anyway, after watching the video below, even though for me it is normal, I think he deserves a bit admiration from you all. What do you think?

Multiple Articulated Vehicles - Are They Safe?

Before we venture into the safety of multiple articulated vehicles or super-long goods vehicles, it is important that we understand the term of road train and its concept. As found in wikipedia, A road train is a trucking concept used vastly in remote areas of Argentina, Australia, Mexico, the United States and Canada to move bulky loads efficiently. The term "road train" is most often used in Australia. In the U.S. and Canada the terms "triples," "Turnpike doubles" and "Rocky Mountain doubles" are commonly used for longer combination vehicles (LCV). A road train consists of a relatively conventional tractor unit, but instead of pulling one trailer or semi-trailer, the road train pulls two or more of them. These should not be confused with land trains, which are relatively lightweight vehicles used for moving passengers.

So we back to the question whether is it safe or not? Wait a second, safe to whom? The truck operators or other road users? I believe many people only concerns of their lives and majority of this kind is in fact not the truck operators! Such a pity clarification but well...Thus, let's focus on the safety of road train to other road users who are your family, your friends, your neighbors, yourself and me. It is a very long vehicle and as such, it is very dangerous to overtake. However, road train is only be used in rural areas i.e. less likely found too often on the road. As long as we don't overtake it, our lives will be spared. Not believing me? Try overtake it! Below are some example of the road train photos from compilation work done by cars world blog. Take a look and beware of the road train.

Will Honda Car Failure Jeopardy Your Life?

PETALING JAYA: How far will you go to get your car fixed? In these day of light-speed emails, instant messages and cellphones, an irate car-owner decided to adopt an old-school method of seeking redress — by placing stickers all over his problematic car.

And the message on the stickers read: "My Honda Tak Guna" (My Useless Honda).

To make sure he got the full attention of the car manufacturer, this sticker-adorned vehicle was parked outside the Honda Malaysia sales and service office here in Section 13 — much to the amusement of many pedestrians and motorists.

As to why he had resorted to such measures, events executive Jess Ross said his car brakes kept failing despite several repairs.

"Three months after buying the car, the rear brakes started giving way. After having these replaced by Honda, the same problem occurred three months later with the brakes giving way in the middle of the road.

"Luckily, I wasn't hit by another car when it happened."

After sending the 15-month old car to the Honda authorised service centre, Sumber Auto, Ross claimed to have been told the car had its front brake callipers fitted wrongly during the original assembly.

Even after the brake calipers were rectified, Jess' woes continued with the calamitous Honda Accord he bought for about RM140,000.

Three months later, after getting his disc brake pads replaced for the second time, his Honda Accord started juddering again.

This time Honda mentioned the brake discs needed to be skimmed.

"On June 20 , there was a screeching sound from my front wheels and the car started juddering again. This time, I decided enough was enough. The car was towed to the Honda service centre for a fourth check on this particular screeching issue."

Claiming manufacturing defects, Ross said: "My demands are simple, firstly I want Honda to fully rectify the problems on my car and include a manufacturer's guarantee that such defects will not recur.

"Secondly, Honda could replace my car with another guaranteed problem-free unit. If all else fails, I want Honda to buy back the car at the purchase price.

"Honestly, I am still open to negotiations and a win-win situation I feel, is the best for both parties," he said, stressing he has no plans to remove the eye-catching stickers from his car.

A Honda Malaysia representative said the company remained committed to inspecting, servicing and repairing the problematic vehicle.

"The company would like to assure Ross the affected vehicle will be serviced and repaired to his satisfaction." Still unhappy with this response, Ross asked: "Why is it Honda Malaysia can't guarantee their parts, which serve a basic function of braking, to function properly?

"Is it too much to ask for a guarantee for their supposedly original parts which they recommended we use?"

How Far Can You Drive While Holding Your Breath?

1. This is a question for you: How far can you drive while holding your breath? I know it is crazy and you will think who the heck will do this anyway. But trust me that there are idiots out there who love to do stupid things like that. So no wonder the road accidents are increasing because the road has been used by all kinds of people ranging from students, youngsters, elders to professionals like engineers, laywers and doctors.

2. I have a story to tell about doctors. They drive like a drunk person. Why? They have on-calls job and not slept for more than 36 hours. Many of them are involving in road accidents. They could be the causation of the accidents. Sigh - who knows right?

3. One more thing, have you met a car which is not moving at the green traffic light during the broad day? I have and the driver is sleeping like a baby! Still thinking I'm just rambling? Read this story...

FOUR teenagers who tried to hold their breath for the time it took their car to travel about half a kilometre were hurt when the driver fainted. Police say three 19-year-olds and a 16-year-old were driving together through a rural Rochester late at night when they decided to try to hold their breath while riding through a rural Rochester-area hamlet.

The driver, 19-year-old Bryan Parslow, fainted and the car hit a boulder. He was ticketed for failing to stay in his lane. Mr Parslow is a paraplegic for whom the car was specially equipped to drive. All four teens were treated at a hospital and released.

Truckers Says Texting while Driving is Safe

1. Texting while halting is safe. Not while driving. Everything is dangerous while driving, even seducing your spouse. Especially truckers, in many cases, they are not the ones who died horribly in the occurace of road traffic accident. For example, in the head-on collision event between truck and car, most casualties are coming from the smaller vehicle.

2. Texting while driving? I just hate that regardless you are truckers or regular drivers. Period.

Research shows that a driver can be as much as 23 times more likely to get into an accident if he or she is texting while driving. New legislation in Washington aims to ban texting while driving by forcing states to adopt the federal mandate or risk losing federal highway greenbacks. One group is fighting the legislation, and it's not teen drivers or multimedia addicts, it's our nation's truck drivers. Truckers, the guys who drive around in 18 wheelers which take 2-3 times as much road to stop when compared to the typical car, often have touch screen computers on the dashboard and keyboards on their laps. They use the multimedia tech to map routes and converse with dispatch, saving minutes (and money) in the hyper-competitive shipping business.

Drivers told The New York Times that they're all but forced to communicate with such computers, as pulling off the road to send a message can cost their companies $1.50 per minute, and the driver risks having his or her pay docked. Clayton Boyce, spokesman for the American Trucking Associations, called the bill "overkill," going so far as to say that banning such devices "won't improve safety." But safety advocates counter that the measure would effectively be underkill, and they have some stats to back up their argument: Heavy trucking deaths in the U.S. have steadily climbed over the past decade, as big rigs now account for 12% of all highway fatalities (4,808 deaths in 2007) versus 11% (4,777) in 1997 – in spite of the fact that passenger cars and trucks are now far safer than they have ever been.

Americans like low prices, and fast, efficient shipping helps keep costs in check. And at the same time, we like to be safe and sound as well, and truckers looking down at a keyboard while driving a 40-ton truck 60 mph just a few feet from strikes us as hazardous to our nation's health. Should truckers be able to text and use computers while driving? Weigh in with your thoughts in the comments section after the jump.

Buying Cheap Quality Tyres and Batteries Online

damage tyre
1. Studies of tyre safety show that maintaining proper tyre pressure, observing tyre and vehicle load limits, and inspecting tyres for cuts, slashes, and other irregularities are the most important things you can do to avoid tyre failure, such as tread separation or blowout and flat tyres. These actions, along with other care and maintenance activities, can also improve vehicle handling, help protect you and others from avoidable breakdowns, improve fuel economy, increase the life of your tyres and most importantly to avoid accidents!

2. Many of us are ignoring the fact that good quality tyres also will ensure your car safety. I know good quality tyres on the regular market are really expensive. But have you ever thought of buying them online? Tyre Online Company providing you not only cheap (discount up to 40%) quality tyres but also free mobile fitting, whether at home or work and of course with fully guaranteed tyres fitting and balancing.

So by buying them online, at least you don’t have to leave your office because the service will come to the front of your office door. How convenient.

4. Apart from that, the company is not only selling tyres but also car batteries. They are usually come with a good deal package. Personally car battery is also as important as car tyres in term of car safety. But I will talk more about it later. For now, please check your car tyres frequently and make sure you buy only good quality tyres.

Smart Style for the Chevrolet Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette is another fast, sporty car - which when driven recklessly can be potentially dangerous. Though it looks fast, and can go fast, it's important to drive this sportscar responsibly on the roads and highways. But just because it's not going fast doesn't mean it can't look, sound, and feel great - even while obeying the speed limit.

The 2009 base model starts at $49,415, so you definitely want to protect that investment by driving safely and taking other precautions to keep it looking showroom perfect, such as investing in Corvette seat covers. And when upgrading your suspension components, for more safety and handling, choose an oversized Corvette rim with an oversized height and width. Who knows - a new Corvette exhaust might even help out pedestrians to know when to cross.

And if we're talking about fast Corvettes, no conversation would be complete without mention of the Z06. Its aggressive style and performance make it tempting to drive this car too quickly on the road -but remember, it's better to take those kind of urges to a track and receive professional instruction under controlled conditions. Don't endanger others! And if you have a C6 and want to get the style, some Corvette Z06 wheels will get you that sleek, high-performance look too - or take it to the track for a track-day outing.

Safety is as much about knowing your car's limitations as it is about driving the speed limit. The high-powered Corvette isn't suited to driving in wet or icy conditions - so remember to put it away under a Corvette car cover when the weather turns bad, instead of trying to pretend you're a drift car driver. Your Corvette will appreciate it - and so will you.

From Car Allowance to the Road Crash Lesson

1. I was out with my friends today and one of them was working as a contractor. Most of the time he has to travel a lot going from places to places to meet with the clients. His company provides him with a company car and he even has car allowance to allow him to fuel up. So basically he can goes around anywhere for free.

2. I’m just wondering does he have to pay for the cost of repair if he were to involve in an accident since it is the company car. In my opinion, he should be bearing for the cost since he should be taking care of the car. Anyway, he told me that the company vehicles all have flexible and customizable Vehicle Reimbursement programs. So in any should he is involved in an accident where liability claims is needed, the company can get full reimbursement from the car allowance provider to repair the vehicle. Therefore he doesn’t need to pay anything for the repair cost.

3. I suddenly remembered about a story which happening on I-80 going westbound in Central Pennsylvania in September 2003, as told by lecturer during my study abroad. Since my friend has lot of travel, it is good for him to learn something about the risk on the road.

4. The story began when my lecturer was traveling westbound in the fast lane following the semi truck. He was about to pass a newer Buick car when this happened. There were a 76 year old driver and 85 year old passenger in the Buick car. He saw them turn on their left turn signal but they were in the slow lane (right lane). They then suddenly turned at 60 Mph right in front of the semi truck. Until now my lecturer still wondering why the old driver did that sudden swerve.

5. Then, the semi T boned them at 65 Mph. He (my lecturer) had to slam my brakes on and slid into the grassy median and called 911. He managed to take some digital pictures while waiting to speak to the state trooper who was still with the truck driver. Both women were killed and it was an incredibly ugly scened that he walked up to.

6. So lesson of the day, to my friend and all the readers, please be careful on the road, we never know what will happen as everything is just so unpredictable, especially when being around the moving trucks. You know, the collision between heavy vehicle and passenger car is never compatible. The result is usually fatal and really a mess. So be careful.

New Honda Civic 2009 Sedan Auto Insurance Pictures

Honda Civic 2009 Blue 11. Thanks to the Honda's proactive auto insurance dealer and an expert with a scanner (",), we now have a good look at the upcoming 2009 Honda Civic sedan. The biggest change is the up front, where the new Civic will get the family smile thanks to a redesigned grille and front fascia. The newly Honda Civic 2009 design seems exhibit the newly Honda City 2009, at least from the exterior part. Maybe it is just me though.

2. Out back, the lighting has been tweaked, but not substantially. Two trim levels have been added: The DX-VP and LX-S, presumably a value and sport package, respectively, helping Civic tweak its price points for broader appeal. The whole thing has an "incremental improvement" quality about it, which — along with "incremental weight gain" — is the same formula that's worked for Civic for about 30 years now.
Honda Civic 2009 Blue 2
Honda Civic 2009 Blue 33. However, all of these Honda magnificient features are useless if we don't buy auto insurance for women. I'm not trying to be a gender descriminator, but it is just for "safety-net" if anything happened to this luxury performance car. Understand?

Honda Civic 2009 Blue 44. Anyway, some good highlights on this newly Honda Civic 2009 are the incredible interior room, good steering, breaks and handling. Also, not to forget its gorgeous front bumper and grille styling, head and tailight assemblies, USB interface, Bluetooth, GPS and stability control. Yes, you heard me, the car has a built-in GPS!

Honda Civic 2009 Blue 55. Before I finish the post, I just want to warn you that when this Honda Civic car is out, your teenagers or kids will love it so much. Thus, as a safety precaution, don't forget to equip yourself with teenagers auto insurance. We never know what will happening in the future. Right?

The Best Performance Car in Malaysia 2008

Honda Civic Type R 1
1. Guess what is the best performance car in Malaysia? Among those listed by New Straits Times (NST) are Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai Coupe FX, Mazda MX-5, Peugeot 207CC, Peugeot 308GT, Renault Clio RS, Renault Megane CC, Renault Megane R26, Volkswagen Eos and Volkswagen Polo GTI. Pick your desired car before I tell you about the winner. For your information, I currently drive Used 2003 Honda Civics. Thus, you might tell me that I'm bias.

2. Truly, I'm not that bias as the judges were not me. Anyway, the NST judges ran riot with the Performance Cars, nominating a total of 17 cars split over 2 categories, while Autocar ASEAN (AA) only named the BMW M3, the Honda Civic Type R and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in the Performance Car category. The Honda’s double victory is well deserved.

Honda Civic Type R 23. To quote a line from AA, “The New Honda Civic Type R engine is a modern work of automotive art and the focus on performance is second to none. For those strengths and for having the guts to sell such an extreme product to the public, Honda deserves to be rewarded in this category.”

4. We can see from the list of nominations, that the NST team of judges had a lot of performance-oriented judges compared to AA’s panel whose opinions are more consumer oriented. No criticism to either on that count, but some of the NST panel’s nominees in segment are questionable, such as the Hyundai Coupe, 207CC, Megane CC, Eos and SLK200.

5. If you think of it, the Audi TT - the lower end versions - isn’t the last word in performance either. These cars are more show than go, though the eventual choices of the Type R and M3 were spot on.

6. After this, it is time for me to look for Used 2006 Honda Civics. Buying new Honda Civic is not an option. (I broke!) LOL

5 Steps on How to Stay Safe Alone in a Parking Garage

Car Garage
Many people feel safe at the home parking garage where they usually equip with latest alert technology and decorate it with nice furniture from garage cabinets online. However, without we realize it, on the other hand, many assaults and rapes are committed in parking garages because they are often dimly lit, poorly observed and provide countless places to hide. You can protect yourself in these situations with a little planning and common sense ... and these are top 5 of the simple steps.

1. Pack everything in a rolling suitcase or shoulder-strap bag, including your briefcase and laptop. Keep your hands free. It’s better to make two trips than to be bogged down with bags which makes you a perfect target. If you have cash or expensive jewelry, hide these on your person or in your biggest piece of luggage—not in your purse, which is easiest to steal.

2. Carry a non-folding umbrella with a steel tip on it, if you have no luggage. Use it like a walking stick and walk lively, clacking the tip against the ground. These make pretty good weapons and even if you aren't a fighter, you are still adding complications for the bad guys to overcome.

3. Be aware of your surroundings. Park in the best-lit space closest to your point of entry. Don’t park in a crammed space next to a wall that leaves no exit. Park near other people—there’s safety in numbers.

4. Note your exact location and avoid wandering around when it's time to leave. Look around the area while driving, parking and before leaving your car. If you have luggage, open the trunk from inside, go to it quickly, grab your things, close the trunk and leave. Don’t hang around.

5. Make sure you can see and hear and run and scream. No big hats, spiked heels, eating as you walk or music plugged into your ears. Don't wear anything that someone could hold you with. Tuck scarves, long beads, necklaces, long hair, braids and even purses if possible inside your clothing until you’re inside.

Perodua Nautica 2008: Price, Colors and Specs

Perodua Nautica 4WD1. For this post, I'll do Car Reviews on The Kembara’s successor - the Perodua Nautica 4WD which was launched few months ago. Thanks to Paul Tan for the resource and Oncar.com for superb services. Perodua seems to be approaching it differently, bringing it as a premium product imported from Japan (a first for a Perodua) with only one variant priced at RM89,900 OTR with insurance. While the Kembara took 60%, Perodua only intends to take 5% of the current SUV market, with sales of about 150 to 200 units monthly. But after months in the market, I heard that less than 200 sold. Hmm..

2. Why? Let's see in the detail. The Perodua Nautica is essentially a Perodua-badged version of the short wheelbase Daihatsu Terios/Toyota Rush. The front bumper and grille is different, and these along with the rear bumper are made locally in Malaysia, while the rest of the car comes completely assembled from Japan. For lighting, you get foglamps and projector halogen headlamps while the rear brake lamp cluster use conventional bulbs.

3. The chassis is based on a derivative of the Toyota Avanza New Car Pictures platform but has additional reinforcements to make it 30% stiffer than its derivative models. The suspension design consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a live axle at the rear.

4. The longitudinally mounted 1.5 liter DVVT engine is the 3SZ-VE producing 109hp at 6,000rpm and 141Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. This engine is also found in the Rush and Avanza 1.5. It is mated to a single overdrive 4-speed automatic, and a full-time 4WD system which has a centre differential lock which can be activated from a button on the dashboard. It locks so that the front and rear axles rotate at the same speed.

Perodua Nautica 4WD Interior5. The shifter for the 4-speed automatic is located in a more conventional position between the two front seats, unlike another more premium-looking design which is available which positions it at an angle more towards the dashboard, allowing it to be much more closer to the steering wheel so that hand movements between the steering wheel and shifter is minimal.

6. Time for some dimensions - the Perodua Nautica weighs 1,200kg, is 4115mm long, 1695mm wide and 1740mm high. Interior space is 1800mm long, 1385mm wide and 1240mm high. The width between the front passengers is 700mm, and seat height is 740mm. The wheels are 16 inch alloys with 215/65R16 tyres. The cargo area takes 380 liters, and the rear seats can be folded down for more luggage capacity.

7. Additional niceties include electrically adjustable and flipping wing mirrors and a multi-info display on the meter panel which displays a clock, average fuel consumption, external temperature and remaining travel range. Understand? Later I'll try to post a New Car Review on different car brand.

Get New Cashmere Overcoat and Learn Car Safety

cashmere overcoat
1. This is a fact that something that you have to know. Before going into that, let’s first understand the situation. Now people around the world are exciting about the incoming celebration or holidays; hanging out with friends, dinner out together, getting new clothes. Well, talking about cloth, what kind of cloth did you prefer during this winter holidays. Majority of you will prefer mens cashmere coat. It’s winter anyway right? Plus the design and look of the winter cloth is so stylus and beautiful for eyes.

2. As promised before, I want to tell you a fact that you have to consider when driving a car in a winter condition. “You told us about this, you suggest us to look onto black ice on the road and drive slowly, what else now?” Easy bro, this is not related to the road condition or winter itself, as a matter of fact this related to your car seatbelt. “What? Is it really matter?” Yeah, let me explain it.

seatbelt pretensioner3. During car collision, there is a system in seatbelt called pretensioner, which is basically will tight you on your seat. The working system is some kind of the same with airbag; Firing out when the delta V is more than 50 km/h. The problem comes is when you wear a thick winter cloth. The thickness of the cloth will increase the time for the pretentioner tightens you on the seat. So during the microsecond’s collision, this is very significant; microseconds can determine your injury severity. The expert in collision, Dr. Ali from Birmingham Automotive Safety Centre (BASC) was once told me that the ideal thing need to be done when driving a car is by not wearing any cloth! Haha but this is just too impossible right as we are quite civilized human. You could wear beautiful mens cashmere coat outdoors, in fact, I really recommended that but when you are driving a car, just don’t wear thick cloth. That’s it.

Winter Holidays: What Should You Do?

Winter Picture
1. Many places in the world at this moment are already taste the “fun” of winter days. Soon, the holidays will arrive and many will go south for travel. Some will use airplane, some will use coach bus, and some will drive on the road. Whatever means of transportation, you have to think about your safety.

2. What should you do during winter? The most important things about winter driving are keeping speed relative to road conditions which could be much lower than posted speeds, and keep lots of distance between vehicles. Cheap Volkswagen (VW) Passat in UK Market

VW Passat1. Breaking news! The new VW Passat CC made its debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. It is a 4-door sedan based on the Volkswagen Passat platform, but with a different body styling which has a much more sportier, sleeker roofline, intended to give the car a 4-door coupe look ala the Mercedes Benz CLS.

2. The VW used cars or new Volkswagen Passat CC will have the new 1.8 liter TSI inline-4 with 160 horsepower as one of its engine options, and the top of the line will be a 300 horsepower 3.6 liter V6 FSI engine. The venerable 2.0 liter TFSI from the Audi A4 and the Golf GTI will also join the lineup later.

3. It features a few technologies such as Dynamic Drive Control, which adjusts the suspension damping and power steering assistance characteristics to suit the driving pattern. Another feature is Park Assist, which is a self parking system where the Passat CC takes care of steering control and the driver only has to accelerate and brake to ease the car into a parking spot. ACC Automatic Distance Control automatically brakes and accelerates within a speed range input by the car driver, and also avoids frontal collisions using a radar sensor.

4. The used VW Passat CC can be found easily at the worldwide car shows, especially in the UK market. While the new ones will make its first debut in Q2 2008, the used will be followed later. So get ready to grab it!

Modern Santa Claus on Harley Motorbike

Modern Santa Claus
1. This looks funny and interesting one. No more flying deer on the cold winter. Modern Santa can bring you things and gifts with his newly Harley Davidson motorbike. This picture has been taken at Huntington district. Each place has its unique Christmas celebration. The detail of the event as follows:

2. Bob Van Stry, head road captain for the "Lighthouse, Harley Owners group" is dressed as Santa as he prepares to lead a bike rally in Huntington to deliver toys to children at the Sagamore Children's Center in Dix Hills this afternoon. The group biked four miles from the Huntington VFW to the center, bringing more than a hundred gifts - paid for out of their own pocket - including handheld electronic video games, footballs, dolls and action figures. But, a bit different way of celebration was happening at my place.

3. I remembered during my junior year at Minneapolis, United States, a friend of mine had invited me to the Christmas college celebration. Well, I never celebrate this event as my culture is just different but I was curious to attend for new experience. The room was beautifully decorated with Poinsettias. That decoration flowers were really upgrading the ambient of the room which was full with international student like me. When I asked the organizer where they got those beautiful Poinsettias, they said they got them from 1-800 Flowers.
