Do I heard it right? Surely, I'm not buying a car as a charity. It is the life of my family I put on the line here. Proper survey on the car, in term of safety, specification, coolness, features and price should be conducted when you want to buy a new car. If the Proton cars are safe and at the same time affordable, why not. But to think is as charity? It is a hell NO. P/S: Is Proton such that low to beg people to buy their cars as a charity? LOL.

KLANG – There is no truth in claims by certain quarters that car prices are expensive in Malaysia because of the existence of the national car, Proton, says former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“This is not true. The government has been imposing high tax for imported cars even from before so that the country does not lose out substantially in the outflow of the ringgit to foreign countries,” he said at the joint launching of the Proton’s Logistics Centres in Sijangkang and Tanjung Malim in Sijangkang here Tuesday.

Dr Mahathir, who is also proton adviser, said Malaysians who bought proton cars were doing a charity because when Proton becomes a success story and prospered, many Malaysians would get jobs and could support their families, some of whom have big families.

“We want to see proton playing a role as a socio machinery, helping to provide for the well-being of all Malaysians,” said Dr Mahathir, who initiated the national car project when he was the prime minister.

Following Proton’s move to set up the logistics centres in Sijangkang and Tanjung Malim to improve the quality of proton cars before delivering the cars to the customers, Dr Mahathir said he was confident that proton might soon capture the domestic automotive market and become the No. 1 car seller in the country.

Through the logistics centres, assembled proton cars at the main manufacturing plant in Shah Alam will be sent to the centres in Sijangkang and Tanjung Malim for testing and post-delivery inspection to ensure its quality conformed to the stipulated standard before delivering the cars to the dealers and for export.

Dr Mahathir said usually proton sales clinched 80 per cent but with the existence of perdoua and other brands of imported cars from South Korea and other countries, proton sales had taken a beating, he said car sales in Malaysia had shot up to 570,000 in one year, the highest sales figure in Southeast Asia, as other countries might be selling more than that but their population was 10 times more than Malaysia’s.

Dr Mahathir said proton must focus attention on quality because in business image was important although some may complain of dissatisfaction.

“It may be only one person complaining but it may portray as though all proton cars are problematic. If we don’t have a good image, everybody will think that this image is not only confined to one car but the whole problem,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said a blogger wrote in his blog claiming that proton car windows cannot be lowered, and the car owner had to open his car door and get down from his car to pay toll.

‘I think this is something overboard. I also drive my car through tolled roads and I’ve yet to see people driving proton cars getting down from their vehicles to pay toll,” he said. (Hmmmmm.....)

“Nevertheless, many believe this is what actually happened because although it is a small complaint but even a giant company must give good treatment,” he added. – BERNAMA

However, in principal, in my opinion, Saudi Arabia is doing the right thing. Don't you agree with me? Certainly. Don't take into heart. I'm just joking Hehe.

The campaign has been publicized on social networking sites, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, where women have been posting images of themselves driving.

The Women2Drive Facebook page, which includes messages of support from around the world, said the campaign would continue until a royal decree reversed the ban.

"All that we need is to run our errands without depending on drivers," said one woman in a film posted Friday, the BBC reports.

While there are no traffic laws that make it illegal for women to drive in Saudi Arabia, the ban is a religious fatwa imposed by conservative Muslim clerics.

“The driving ban is increasingly upsetting Saudi women, who now make up more than half of this country’s university students. Graduating in record numbers, they are looking for jobs and they want to drive themselves to work, to the shopping mall, to the grocery store and to their children’s schools,” wrote GlobalPost’s Caryle Murphy in a story suggested and voted on by GlobalPost readers.

“The new social media tools and recent peaceful street action in other Arab countries like Egypt have given the campaign quite a bit of steam,” Murphy wrote.

Supporters of the ban say it protects women, and prevents them from leaving home unescorted or travelling with an unrelated male.

Last month, a woman was arrested and spent more than a week in jail after driving a car and posting a video of herself online.

Manal Al Sherif, 32, was accused of "besmirching the kingdom's reputation abroad and stirring up public opinion." She was released after being forced to sign a form promising never to drive again.

We all know that it took women a while to be accepted on the roads. In fact, in many male circles, grunting can still be heard when the words “women” and “driving” are brought up in the same sentence. Chinese Man Throws Bicycle at Thieves

1. Snatching or ‘ragut’ is a unforgiving crime, which most of the time, the occurrence involves severe casualties to the victims. Since the incident occur on the road, I think this is part of road safety too. Am I right?

2. The videos, which entitled, "Chinese Man Throws Bicycle at Thieves on Scooter", show how a heroic China man arrested the snatchers by only using his bike. In my opinion, this noble action is commendable and worth emulating.

The World's First Electric Cars Invented in 1884??!

1. Have you ever thought that actually the first electric car was made in 1884? Yes, you better trust me. The world's first electric car has been built by British inventor named Thomas Parker. But for some reason, the electric cars during those times don't work out so well. Or maybe due to political reason, the mass production of electric cars was not possible.

2. Now the work has been done and continued by his ancestors. Even not as great as any other great car company like Mitsubishi and Honda, they are winning on the efforts. As quote from the Dailymail:

Thomas Parker's son, Thomas Hugh Parker shared his father's flair for design and innovation, even building a steam powered car in 1901 before later working on modern car features such as hydraulic brakes and four wheel steering. He also claimed to have invented the spark plug, monoblock engine and the carburettor. And these days the tradition lives on through Graham Parker's oldest son, Alun, who is also an engineer who has worked on projects ranging from the West Coast mainline to the Panama Canal, and Crossrail.

3. Electric cars are not only clean but also cheap. The instability oil and gas price in the world market now should be the one which will trigger the research and make the electric cars produced in mass production so that we will not dependent anymore on irreplaceable energy anymore such as coal and petroleum. However in term of safety, of course, more research need to be done as currently as far as I know the electric cars are usually smaller in size and that alone will invite some problems during any road crash.

Road Traffic Accident Photos at Doha Photos

1. I stumbled upon this news when browsing the internet. A pretty severe road traffic accident that happened about 5-6 months ago at rich city of Doha, Qatar. I don't know the details, the news told me nothing but from the photos, we can see that it was collision between a tanker and a jeep.

2. The accident was probably initially caused by the tanker, if we look from the crash configuration where the tanker on top of the jeep. The tanker lost control, roll over and happened to hit the jeep in a random manner. Well, there are many other reasons can cause such collision. Plus, the accident happened at landmark crossings. But one thing for sure, it is not neccessarily a high speed collision.

1. This morning I got an email from my colleague, Ramizam about new traffic Lamborghini Gallardo patrol car in Doha. The car photos looks really awesome. To match public and people's fast and luxury cars in Doha, I think this is really a nice and intelligent move by Doha government.

Malaysia Half-Shell (Kura Kura) Helmets Ban in January 2009

PUTRAJAYA: Half-shell helmets may soon be taken off shelves in motorcycle accessories shops. "They are now seen on roads because there is still a loophole in the Motorcycles (safety helmets) Rules 1973 which does not define a standard helmet," said Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh.

He said the department was in the midst of amending the law to prohibit the sale, distribution and use of the helmets, and it could come into effect as early as January, next year. "The half-shell helmets are illegal and have never been approved by Sirim." But how come they are so many sold in the market now. Something is fishy.

He also said that the department was working out details on enforcement and whether its officers would be able to go from shop to shop to confiscate the helmets. Although Suret was unsure of how the helmets entered the Malaysian market, he reckoned they could be smuggled from neighbouring countries. Really?

He also said that the department had been organising road shows for the past one year to get motorcyclists to exchange the half-shells for an open-face helmet for free. "Malaysians are generally gullible. The helmets have been illegal all the while, but if they are sold in shops, they will still buy them," he said. Well, I could say that people is usually treasure more things that hard to get.

The fashionable half-shell helmets are distinctive by its bowl shape and is a favourite among superbikers for its comfort and light weight. It is, on average, cheaper than the standard open-face helmet. The price of a half-shell helmet starts from RM20, depending on the brand.

However, the helmets tend to flip up with strong winds or when riding the motorcycle at high speeds due to lack of support behind the head. "Wearing a half-shell helmet is as safe as not wearing any helmet at all," said Suret.

According to a local helmet manufacturer, the helmets are still rampantly sold in small towns where enforcement is lax. "Although it is not sold in the open or out on display, some dealers still stock them."

According to a study conducted by the department, 80 per cent of fatalities involving motorcyclists were due to serious head injuries from not wearing helmets properly or wearing helmets not up to safety standards. This includes the half-shell helmet. It is true, I agree with this.

Naza Ria MPV Crash at Temerloh 12 Died 3 Injured

1. This crash was happening on July 24th 2007 at KM 96.2 of East Coast Expressway (LPT) near Lanchang exit. At about 4:30am, Naza Ria MPV with its 15 passengers (human trafficking) was travelling eastbound towards Kuala Lumpur rammed into the rear end of a lorry that fully loaded with iron ore and was instantly pinned under the vehicle. 12 passengers were died and the remaining severely injured in the accident.

2. This was my first case. I still can remember the scene very well, smell of blood which almost made me faint. Well anyway, the first question is how could the Naza Ria MPV could sustain 15 passengers. Can you imagine it? For your information, Naza Kia is a 7-8 passenger seat MPV.

3. This is the question that still been weighing my mind. I have tried all kind of possibilities of arrangment but still looks irrelevant. The most possible arrangement is significantly violate human rights. Anyway, let's talk about something like lessons of the day.

4. Don't drive fast during wee hours at LPT as the highway will be fulled with fogs and the visibility is very low: you can't see clearly what's in front of you. You might end up like this MPV if you are not careful enough.

5. Don't overload you vehicle with extra passenger because it might effect your vehicle stability.

6. Don't mess around with heavy vehicle.

Bob Van Stry, head road captain for the "Lighthouse, Harley Owners group" is dressed as Santa as he prepares to lead a bike rally in Huntington to deliver toys to children at the Sagamore Children's Center in Dix Hills this afternoon. But, a bit different way of celebration was happening at my place.

3. I remembered during my junior year at Minneapolis, United States, a friend of mine had invited me to the Christmas college celebration. Well, I never celebrate this event as my culture is just different but I was curious to attend for new experience. The room was beautifully decorated with Poinsettias. That decoration flowers were really upgrading the ambient of the room which was full with international student like me. When I asked the organizer where they got those beautiful Poinsettias, they said they got them from 1-800 Flowers.

How Smoking-in-Motion Effects Road Safety

1. I suddenly thought about this. How smoking in motion effects safety during driving. It is hard to determine whether this could be the reason of road accidents as the evidence of smoking normally vanished with the damaged of the vehicles.

2. Anyway, based on some research, youth worldwide, are involved in a disproportionate number of road accidents, in general, and fatal accidents, in particular. those who smoked while driving used seat belt less, and had a higher involvement rate in road traffic accidents. So meaning, those who smoke has less safety awareness.

3. What can we do? I know that I feel not comfortable when being in the midst of smokers. Maybe you guys too. Something that you could do is to have hepa filter air purifiers to clean the room's air but not sure if this could be used inside the car.

4. In short, smoking is not just bad to our health but also could be the reason of fatal road accidents. I should investigate this possibility more when all the significant reasons like fatigue and DUI solved.

1. To summarize it all, big trucks and SUVs are among the most appealing to car thieves. Don't trust me? In the past few years, big, bold SUVs have become almost synonymous with the success of entertainment and sports stars. You make it big, you buy an Escalade. Or a Hummer. Hopefully, there's money left over to hire a full-time driver who can watch over the car, because these two vehicles are among the most likely to be stolen.

2. The 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV, a full-size luxury SUV, has the highest theft-claim frequency of any vehicle by a long shot. It's 15 times more likely to end up in the hands of thieves than the least-stolen car, the luxurious Mercedes E Class sedan, according to the theft-claim frequency report for 2005-07 model year cars, SUVs and light trucks, produced by the Highway Loss Data Institute (an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) - IIHS. The E Class, Buick Rainer and Subaru Forester have the lowest theft-claim frequency reports.

While the Escalade is the most coveted among thieves, the Hummer H2 and the Hummer H2 SUT (a sport utility truck with a small pickup bed in the rear compartment), are also highly desirable--and among the top 10 vehicles with the highest theft claim frequencies.
