Was this the first attempt to get to USA? OR
were you working in USA and went for a visting to INDIA?
I was on F1 (to OPT to H1b) and planning to visit india in January,. I have to go for stamping.

I was on L2 here and went to India for H1 stamping. I have EAD and AP thru my spouse AOS sponsorship. Since I want to retain my H1 status I went for H1 stamping. No questions related to job..more about my spouse AOS..officer told me visa is granted and it is almost 1 week and no change in passport status on vfs site. I am bit worried..i will call consulate tonight..

So you guys are saying that because you are on a H1B you are working harder than others? Let me tell you that working hard does not guarantee your job. I have seen hard workers laid off left and right, be it US citizens, green card holders or H1Bs. In fact one of my GC friends said that it is a constant fear for him to be employed at all times, he was unemployed for 10 months after the dot com bust. That changed him completely, he said what will I do with my GC, can I feed my kids with a GC? I need a job. So it is everyone's perspective. I look at him and say at least you have a GC, he says at least you have a job. :)
I still think that GC is not a right. It is a privilege, as is a driving license. You have to pass the drivers test to get a license. Logiclife's message from centuries back about anyone being able to move to another country does not work in today's world. There were no visit visas needed to get to India or China for example in those years, but why is it a requirement to have a visa to visit India now? Things have changed.
BTW, I do think we should do what we can to improve the immigration process, but if nothing gets done its not the end of the world. We can "ask", "request" Congress to change laws. But surely you are not saying we "demand" for our rights to have a GC?

I think DATE OF DELIVERY matters.
I clarified this by looking at the records in tarckit. There were people filed on 05/31/2007 to reach on 06/01/2007 and got the the receipt.

As you are aware there is alot going on right now. The administration is talking about CIR.
Lots of bills with small provisions get talked up or introduced. In fact that happens every year if you look back. We keep an eye on what's moving and where the effort is needed. We do not want to waste our resources and effort if something may end up simply being a placeholder or a position statement.
In a nutshell, there will be fax campaign when we are advised (by lawmakers, lobbyists and friendly advocacy groups among others) and we determine that it is needed and will be effective.
Thanks for the response Paskal. However I still do not underststand why IV is not encouraging everyone to send faxes and register their support via the AILA site. As I have understood AILA has been a leader in this effort for immigration {see July 2007}. If you are trying to say that the interests of AILA and IV are not exactly the same - that is to be expected - no 2 organizations can ever be the same - BUT - surely we can come together to form and pursue some strategic interests. I see that with regard to these bills IV and AILA interests meet. Further if readers @ IV send messages via AILA Action Alert then IV resources can be saved to follow the path that you have described above.
Finally, the bill may be a placeholder or position statement, but in the end we need to demonstrate the numbers - highlighting this bill may eventually lead to some worthwhile convergence in the CIR - I think no opportunity need be lost in this process and the more we highlight our position and condition the more visibility we get.

There have been a lot of updates sent out via the verified state chapter mailing lists. I know the post was entirely wrong and foolish.
But I feel that I am in the dark about IV activities for the past one year.
I am one of the silent IV Supporters and long time (from the beginning) monthly contributing IV Member.
It would be better to have a special thread/monthly bulleting page from IV to tell the members to know about IV activities or progress.
After the last year July fiasco issue I have not seen any posting about IV activities on the web site other than lot of threads and could not able to figure out the work IV is exactly doing.
I strongly believe because of IV core team only we were able to come through successful in July 2007 Bulletin issue. But do not know what else is IV doing for the past 12 months.
The Flowers, Letters and Phone Calls is not working as we expect. I do not know about other activities other than sending letters and phones during every congress session.
I believe IV need to do some thing different. There is no media reports about legal immigration issue (not for IV) for the past one year.
My perspective is that we need to find a way that Media and Public will aware of the issues we face every day.
I am not questioning the IV Core Team. It would be great if the IV members know some details about IV activities every month in a bulletin or thread etc.

I dont know if that's completely true. I had my H1B visa appointment on Dec 28th in Mumbai and am in the PIMS verification status also. The visa officer told me that all NIV applicants around the world have to go through the process and admitted that the process was new.
I talked to 3 other H1 candidates right after I was handed the yellow slip and they all had the same experience with different officers. Although its aggravating, hopefully, we'll all get some relief this week.

This can financially drain you out. My insurance agent told me that they cant get the money straight out of your bank account , because how will they find out your bank account number and the bank? How do they know how many bank accounts you have? What if you send money to India before the judgement is entered against you? If you have a house, they can go after your house or car. What about their own insurance policy? Maybe their insurance can also pay as uninsured motorist pay? Retirement income is usually protected in some states and hence I dont think your 401K is at risk. Once your insurance company pays out the maximum, you can basically say hands up, I have given up.

It is true that ordinary americans does not care about immgration because those who are working in high tech and engg are very less may be less than 20%. So the impacted people are americans those who are aspiring to become High tech employees and those who were laid of from high tech. They want just some kind of protection and preference for their jobs from H1bs. This argument cannot be ruled out completely. Right now some protectons like LCA and Labor certification process,We everyone know those process are just formality and documentation and not implemented really. Why I am telling this is lot of congressmen buying this argument and opposing H1b and gc increase. If these kind of issues are resolved h1b and green card can be increased without much opposition. But IV cannot do anything about the H1b issues or protecting american jobs as it is out of scope. But Corporations and Congress can do that. If your parents have bad health, then its a risky trip anyways .. but if they are in a reasonable health, then most insurance plans (except the super cheap ones) should be fine to cover any emergencies .... I have used k v rao insurance couple of times (but never had to make a claim) ...
There are always bad stories about claim process, but that is just the nature of Insurance industry (had such experiences with my employer insurance as well ... despite it being a Fortune100 company with generous benefits)... so choose your poison! :)
