Jaguar XFR the fastest-ever Jag at 225 mph

The new 503-hp XFR is now offiicially the fastest model in Jaguar’s line of cars after

race driver Paul Gentilozzi reached a record run of 225 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats last November.

The XFR was showcased at the Detroit Auto Show, sans the electronic speed-limiter and donning a tea-tray rear spoiler which was necessary to keep the rear wheels from lifting off the ground when Gentilozzi took the XFR for a spin and broke the 220-mph Jaguar record.

The Jaguar XFR’s 225 mph run broke the record previously held by the XJ220 launched in the early 90’s, which is named after its recorded speed of 220 mph.The XFR engine is also used in the new XKR coupe, which was also unveiled at the Detroit auto show. Both the XFR and XKR got upgrades in the chassis as well as body enhancements. While enthusiasts will immediately see the heavier chrome front grille on the XKR, they would have to look at the XFR closely to notice the lower stance and deeper front spoiler.

Among the major improvements in the XFR is its capacity to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, and 50 to 70 mph in a whopping 1.9 seconds. This feature makes the XFR a worthy competition for the Audi RS6, BMW M5, and the Bentley Flying Spur. The XFR also has the 5.0-liter V8, which the automaker describes as their “most technologically advanced petrol engine ever.”
